What would you have done?

Game tied, two outs, bottom of 7th. 14U ASA tournament.

Pitcher on plate, bee starts buzzing around her. She steps back, ball in glove at this
point. Bee lands on pitching plate. Pitcher with ball in hand now, slams the bee with the bll.
Now readies to pitch, pitches a ball. Coach on 3rd base approaches PU and wants an illegal
pitch. Foreign substance on ball. This actually happened.

No, I was not involved. LOL

Would say... Coach you're kidding right?

Would not call IP, would not have a "do-over", would inspect the ball, might change the ball, may wind up having to finish without 3B coach...would depend on him.

It would had only been a foreign substance if the Bee was from out of the Country.

Thank you sooooo much.

I needed a good laugh today and you provided it.

By the way, I agree that there is no problem with the scenario explained.
Play on - and let the pitcher mind her own " beesness ".

Can't resist the opportunity for a few puns here:

No matter what you decide, it will be a honey of a call.

Was it a "bee" division game?

The pitcher was "bugged" and so was the coach!

Did a buzz go through the crowd?

I know the infield "fly" rule but not the infield "bee" rule.

bkbjones Thu Jul 21, 2005 12:17pm

I'd tell the coach to go mind his own beeswax.

whiskers_ump Thu Jul 21, 2005 12:30pm

In regards to the play, as most stated "play on". Exactly what they did. I figure if a 14
(maybe 13) year old gal, still wants to handle the ball after flatting a bee, so bee it.

orioles35 Thu Jul 21, 2005 01:22pm

That's unBEElievable.

(Sorry, couldn't resist.)

bkbjones Thu Jul 21, 2005 03:34pm

Que sera, sera, whatever will bee will be.

whiskers_ump Thu Jul 21, 2005 04:57pm

Now all we need is Tom - Dakota, to show up with the picture of the bees.

ASA/NYSSOBLUE Thu Jul 21, 2005 06:38pm

of course the movie would star John Beelushi.....

greymule Thu Jul 21, 2005 10:48pm

I'd say, "Coach, read Section 15, Rule 9-B-4-C-6.2, which deals with distractions posed by insects. Plus see case book play 53.X, which deals with bee distractions specifically."

Play ball.

hitdawg23 Fri Jul 22, 2005 12:41am

Coach I will call what a bee when I bee it!!!!

tcannizzo Fri Jul 22, 2005 12:46am

This hits too close to home for me. I coached a team from 1998 through 2003 called the Killer Bees. I have always been partial to bees, therefore I would have ejected the pitcher for murder.
