The Arbiter works great and is on line. No need for e-mail though the Arbiter will send the umpire a reminder of upcoming games and notify them when they have been offered new assignments.

arbiter

Our NFHS group used it this spring for the first time. Once the first time glitches were worked out, it was a quantum leap ahead. Local basketball group used is with good results too.

I have no idea what using the arbiter as the assignor is like - I stopped assigning several years before that was available. A couple of college assignors use the online versions - and that's great as all online assignments tie together - so there's no conflict. One of the local HS assignors uses the stand-alone version and he's apparently pleased with it. As a user (assignee), I much prefer the online version - and I really like that.

I use The Arbiter both as an assignor and an assignee. Started as an assignee and was very pleased, so researched further and purchased (well, licensed). The stand-alone version is being phased out, and reportedly will be not supported after this year, but the on-line version is greatly more effective, anyway.

I'm not in love with it's ideas on auto-assigning, but it allows so many good data relationships that it is infinitely better than manual assigning. Maybe I haven't given it the right or enough imformation, but I still assign those whom I don't permit to self-assign (what a concept; let your senior officials pick their games with rules, and let even lesser officials pick their preferred assignments, with tighter rules!!). I love the flexibility to customize permissions for anyone involved, so that one rule doesn't have to fit all.

Anyone even considering assigning should at least look at the program, as I refused all others (even being a real computer nerd) before this.
