In high school softball next year, player are require to wear a face mask...

What are the rules of the face mask?? What kind must they be and must they be ASA approved? I know a punter in football wears a single bar face mask..can a softball player next season wear a single bar mask..

It has to be a NOCSAE approved facemask. If it matches that criteria, the mask is legal.

They sure will. I've already seen a few of them. It's located on the side of the mask near the area where it attaches to the side of the helmet so that it doesn't interfere with the batters vision.

I've bought three masks this spring, a Wilson, a Rawlings, and a Schutt. The NOCSAE approval is painted (in rather small letters) on the sides or inside of the masks. It is not a big huge logo like the one embossed on the helmets. Beware...there are/were some old masks left in the stores that don't have the NOCSAE markings!

After reading on here how some of the helmets/masks don't have the NOCSAE approval, as soon as our coach bought the masks for next year, I made her show them to me to be sure they had the NOCSAE approval on them. Luckily, they all did.
