Just found THIS forum...:) Any other NYSSO people here? If so, what did think of this year's test? Either we are really well prepared, or they really dumbed it down this year [70 T/F's???].Still have a lot of problems with some of Mr Miner's interps/mechanics..oh well....

SamNVa Fri Mar 30, 2001 10:22am

I'm not an NYSSO umpire. I live in Virginia, but I thought I give you a
HEARTY HI HO, WELCOME
to the board and hope you'll become a regular contributor.

Not in NY, but in north central Pa here. I'll second Sam's welcome.

IRISHMAFIA Mon Apr 02, 2001 06:01am

Ben,

Did they move Binghamton to the other end of I-81, or is there one other than just north of the NY/PA border?

Mike

BenGilli Mon Apr 02, 2001 08:37am

Hello

Hello, from Indiana...From what I'm reading we may be cold but the only dry place playing any games and even close to being on schedule....Knock on wood.

IRISHMAFIA Mon Apr 02, 2001 08:13pm

Ben,

I was referring to the "upstate" New York notation. I really wouldn't consider anything below I-90 as upstate :-)

Mike

BenGilli Mon Apr 02, 2001 08:44pm

upstate

Well we consider it upstate NY.. just because.. my parents were from Long Island.. so in reference to there.. it is upstate..

IRISHMAFIA Mon Apr 02, 2001 09:21pm

Yeah, that's what I was figuring, after all, any part of the state not in the NYC metropolis is "upstate".

However, when you drive to Massena, NY from Delaware every other weekend for a year and some, Binghamton just doesn't seem that far away :-)

Mike

BenGilli Mon Apr 02, 2001 10:41pm

not sure where massena, ny is.. doesnt sound like a fun drive though

IRISHMAFIA Tue Apr 03, 2001 10:19pm

Just follow I-81 north to Alexandria (?) and turn right on NY 37 and follow the St Lawrence to where NY, Ontario & Quebec meet and you just passed through Massena, NY

whiskers_ump Tue Apr 03, 2001 10:57pm

It all sounds like a walk in the park. Try driving from
Beaumont, Tx. to El Paso, Tx. Now thats a drive.

Crossing Texas

Yeah, papa,

I used to live in Austin, TX, and remember crossing into Texas from Lousiana on I-10. The first mile post I saw was something like 980ish.

El Paso is closer to Los Angeles than it is to Beaumont!

IRISHMAFIA Wed Apr 04, 2001 09:36pm

Really? Try it in an ice storm. At the time, I was a professional driver doing 200-300 local miles a day. Ten hours on a wintery Friday evening in upstate NY can get pretty scary.

Personally, I wasn't exactly thrilled with the evening drive from Lake Charles, LA to Bryant, TX on a Friday evening, but I guess that's a normal drive in that neck of the country.

Texan's and Ice or Snow.......

Mike...........

If you are ever anywhere south of say.....Dallas......and there is ANY ice around......park your car and stay the night.......

There is almost no-one in TX that knows how to drive in these conditions........

You are taking your life into your own hands.

You northern guys should come give us driving lessons.......we DO NOT know how to handle any icy conditions.

Hurricanes, tornadoes, hail storms.........no problems.............but stay the hell out of the way if it gets icy.

Joel :D

oppool Wed Apr 04, 2001 11:03pm

Joel,

You will need to make that statement for maybe south of Oklahoma. I now live north of Dallas and have lived in Oklahoma and believe me none of us know how to drive in ice or snow everyone around here just says the sign still says 65mph little snow and ice is not going to slow them down then there's a wreck and we have a lot of parking lots

Thank goodness that over with for this year it was 89 today and sunny have worked 3 days already this week. Yahooooo!!

Have a good one

Texans driving on ice

Joel,

I moved to TX from Iowa. I used to really like the ice storms in Texas, 'cause I could drive to work with no problems... all the pickups were in the ditch :D

IRISHMAFIA Thu Apr 05, 2001 10:03pm

Yep, that is why it would be so easy to drive in the ice in Texas. With everyone in the ditch or at home, I'll be the only vehicle on the highway with no one to hit!

Mike

SamNVa Fri Apr 06, 2001 09:11am

Yeah, and in those parts of Texas that get ice, there isn't much else to hit except prickley pears and scrub mesquite.
