I am a newbie... If there is a better board to use, please suggest.

I am wondering about awards for Illegal Pitches. From reading the Pony rules, it seems that the normal award is to call the pitch a ball. But somewhere it reads that the batter is awarded first base, and all runners are advanced 1 bases without liability.

Someone set me straight. Reading the Pony rulebook is making me very very cross-eyed.

The proper award for an IP is A ball on hte batter and one base award to all runners. If the pitchis a ball and all runners advance one base on the pitch no additional award is given.

I feel your pain with the PONY rule book.

1) That is generally true under all rules.
2) An illegal pitch causes a delayed dead ball, DDB, because of the variable outcome (e.g., if batted or ball four and all runners advance, no award).

Cecil,
Just to make sure I am with you. If the ball is batted and all runners advance one base the IP is null and void.

so a few other situations:
1) R1 on 3rd B2 hits an IP (so signalled) and is thrown out at first R1 does not score. Does the IP get enforced?
2) Same but R1 scores, then no IP and B2 is out?
3) B2 hits the ball foul (uncaught) then IP is enforced as R1 does not advance?
4) B2 hits a long fly ball in foul territory that is caught, R1 tags up and scores, then no IP?

Am I thinking of catcher's obstruction, or does the offensive coach get an option in IP also? Or does the batter remove the IP any time they swing at it?

"All runners advance" includes the batter reaching 1st safely, not just making contact.

1) BR returns to bat, R1 advanced to score, BR gets 1st if ball four.
2) B2 can't be out, returns to bat unless ball four.
3) same as #1
4) same as #2

Offensive coach get the choice of the play or the IP penalty unless BR reaches 1st safely and all other runners advance.
Swinging at it means nothing in FP.
