The previous post dealing with Anderson Rocket tech bats had me thinking yesterday. Doing a H.S. playoff game and girl comes to the plate. As she takes a few practice swings I think I hear a faint, rattling sound. I ask her for the bat, swung it myself and there was indeed a faint but definite sound comming from the bat. Kind of like there was something loose inside. I look all over the surface and there is no problem so I decide to let her use it. The game goes on.

Would the presence of a sound coming from a bat be enough for anyone to throw that bat out? As I said I saw no surface problems at all; in fact it looked like a fairly new bat.

I don't think I would throw out a bat just because it had a rattle in it if I couldn't see any damage on the outside of it. Last night I did throw out a bat that was cracked. I was looking and haven't found a rule on wooden bats. Are they legal as long as they meet the size requirements? Do they have to cetified?

Agree. All other things being legal, the only time I would dump a bat for an internal sound would be if I also sensed some type of weight shift when exercising the bat.

Yes and no, respectively.
