Earlier today I had an interesting situation. 3-1 count on batter, R1 on 2B. As pitch comes in, inside of the zone, batter sticks her leg out and gets hit by the pitch. I call 'Dead ball, Stay in the box'. I look at my indicator and then realize, sheepishly, that it is ball 4 and send the runner to first base. The defensive coach goes crazy, telling me that the batter got hit on purpose. I explain the situation and the coach tells repeats herself over and over again. Finally it dawns on her and she then says, in her best Gilda Radner impression " Never mind.' It took a second fro the fans to catch on but the game ended and all was fine.

She got hit by a pitch IN THE ZONE Dead Ball Strike!!

I am taking this that they mean not in the zone when they said "inside the zone" as in the opposite side of the plate and outside the zone. Dave

I took it the same way hitdawg and AZ took it at first. I'm sure he did mean an inside pitch missing the zone though.

I did mean to say that the ball was inside of the plate, outside of the zone on the inside. As in BALL, Inside. I sometime think that I write things the wrong way in here just to start a conversation :)
