Both my partner and I think I got the call right, but I would like to hear it from the veterans.

Pitched ball bounces about 2 feet in front of plate. B1 hits fly to F6. F6 make easy catch. F6 throws ball to F1. BR runs through 1B.

Is BR out on the catch by F6 even though the ball hits the ground before BR hits the ball?

Is there a rule that covers this?

The ball hitting the ground is still part of the pitch. I've got an out on a caught fly ball.

The ball becomes a batted ball when it is hit. Before that, it is a pitched ball. The quality of the pitch has no bearing on the status of the batted ball (fly, gounder, caught, uncaught, etc.).

This is going to depend on if this is FP or SP in ASA.

FP - Ball is in play (7-5-A), Batter is out on the catch.

SP - This is a ball (7-5-B), Ball is dead, Runners cannot advance.

SP 16" - The Batter is out (7-6-J) on interference if runners on base, otherwise it is a ball.

I got it right!!!

Coach wanted to argue that you can not get a fly out since the ball hit the ground. His arguement was since a pitched ball hitting the ground before the batter swings on 3rd strike is considered a D3K then this should be ruled a grounder. When the game was over, he still thought I made the wrong call.
