Runners are on 1st and 2nd, 1 out. B-R strikes out swinging, catcher drops the ball and B-R runs to first. Runners advance to 2nd and 3rd, catcher throws down to 1st to get the B-R out. The Umpire sends the runners on 2nd and 3rd back to 1st and 2nd. The runners on 1st and 2nd just stole 2nd and 3rd. Why did he send them back.

I don't know why the ump sent them back but I believe the umpire was wrong for doing it. It is my understanding that it is the players responsibility to know the Sitch and all that that entails.

bad call.. I had similar in Var last night.. with a twist - R1@1B Defense knew the sit and threw to 2B getting the runner. So I call the runner and tell the Batter out - coach says "but she was advancing base wasnt occupied".. I think its a "nice try by a coach" but he actually looks aggravated at my ruling.

You might try just a quick additional word or two in your explanation to the coach, e.g. "Occupied means at the time of the pitch, coach. 1st base was occupied."

Not required, and some umpires might consider this a "rules clinic" - but if a coach is confused, I consider it good game management.
