You veteran blues need to sit down when you read this.
JUCO district game 1 of doubleheader at defending champs place. Tough, hard nosed defensive gem.
We're down 2-1, top of 7th, 2 out, runners at 1st and 2nd.
Top of order coming up.
Lead off batter chops one towards third base. Ball comes to rest on the line halfway to 3rd base.
BR beats the throw to first
But wait -
PU had called foul ball.
Coach vehemently questions the call to no avail (No surprise in that).
BR then flies out to CF. We lose 2-1.

And now - the rest of the story:

Between games, after blues went to change and returned for game 2, the game 1 PU tells our coach,
Quote:

I knew it was fair but I didn't want the game to end like that. I wanted her to have another chance.
The coach told me this while we were having the post game meal enroute home and I almost gagged.

I would honestly take what coach told you with a grain of salt.

He has obvious bias in the situation, and his recount of the sitch is subject to said bias.

Might of happened, but it's one side of the story isn't it?

With that said, if the ump did that, well of coarse that would give us all indegestion, needless to say.

If indeed the umpire said this, then he probably won't be calling
any more JUCO ball, or at least should not. However, as noted by
Alameda, this is only one side of the story.

Tonight in our DIV I game, we had a ball sit on HP spinning.
Catcher picks it up and throws to the pitcher. She thought it
was foul.

A few games ago I (PU) had one of the slow rollers that the catcher followed to foul territory then picked up - foul... then 3B coach begins ranting and the entire crowd did also.. which was absurd.. it was slow moving and definately foul and almost got him ejected.. a case of a coach getting their clocked cleaned and taking it out on the blues. They were getting destroyed so I went easier on him than I should have. Coaches see what they want to see out of bias and desire to assist their team IMO.

It was Oakdale High cleaning their clock btw, (A Top Nationally ranked team and lead by pitcher headed to UCLA or someone else big ...google Oakdale High). Was a real treat to work the plate with such a talented pitcher.

Would that be Oakdale High outside of Modesto ?

that be them. I think the coach was trying to get a hit anyway he could.. Oakdale's pitcher definately has a future in top level SB.

If that is indeed true, and not a figment of the coaches imagination, then that guy should take his card and burn it. Your job as an umpire is to create a level playing field by inforcing the rules uniformally, and not get emotionally involved in the game.
