How do you guys handle this? I had it become an issue last night and gave a warning but now after reading the rule again think maybe I should have called the IP. How do you guys handle a pitcher that takes forever to pitch the ball each pitch?

FYI...This was NFHS

First time I think we're getting close to 20 seconds I remind the catcher that the pitcher has 20 seconds to pitch. (I probably wasn't counting 20 seconds on this one).

After that, I start counting and call a ball the first time I see it. I can't remember EVER having to do this twice.

WOW Mike,

You gotta go back to school. You can't count.

I agree with you though, I have called this before.
Have also called a strike on batter for delaying.

A couple of weeks ago I had to call a ball in this situation for the first time in years.
I couldn't believe it,
Bottom of 5th inning visiting team up 11-1
bases loaded no outs and you guessed it, 3 balls already.

I lost all control of the game.
We had to play another inning

sigh!

Glen,

That's the new math. You know, that "blue" math now including in the umpire's guide. ;)
