Didn't see this personally but I was told in 3rd inning of a HS tourney game yesterday that the PU went to the circle and had the pitcher remove a flesh colored bandaid from the middle knuckle of her pitching hand.
I know the pitcher can't have any object that would cause a distraction but if a pitcher has a cut finger what, besides a flesh colored bandaid, could she use?

I'm not sure why I would "see" that as PU, unless I thought the ball was having something added to it.

NFHS 6.2.2: no tape on contact points of pitching hand.

Logic would say that this is not tape. Tape would increase the friction of the contact points, whereas a bandaid would provide less friction than the bare hand.

However, absent any official interpretation (is bandaid a tape?), I normally require the pitcher to remove the bandaid or play another position until the injury heals.

Sure the rulebook says the pitcher cannot 'wear' something on his/her pitching arm/hand.

In my opinion, bandaid on a finger is part of this rule.
It's illegal.

Will I ask the pitcher to remove it during a game? Can't say that for sure... It depends on many different factors (e.g. he/she's using by this means a foreign substance, e.g. the opposing coach ask me to check it and/or to enforce the rule...)

That's what I meant when I said I wasn't sure why I would "see" the bandaid.

If there's something on the ball, yes, I see it. However, it's on the middle knuckle, not the finertip - so there's most likely no extra friction coming from it.

I agree with you 100%.
I wonder if also in this kind of situations preventive officiating will help a lot.
If I see something illegal like this (bandaid on a finger) during warm-up pitches, I can go to the pitcher after he/she finish and check it (e.g. I will let the others believe I want to check/change the game ball).

to my attention my someone. After all, umpires can't see and it is *flesh*
