I had one of those that see one thing, hear one thing, and don't know anything.

2nd inning, no outs, R1 on 2B. Batter hits slow roller to SS, who fields and
fires to 1B. F3 makes the catch, butttt has a pulled foot. Partner, not
sure, hollars "Pulled foot", and I replied, "Yes." Defensive coach, gets
time and goes to partner and asks "Blue, you need to get help on that play." DUH

4th inning, same coach comes by and says, "my cuz in the stands said you got
the play right."

5th inning, you got it, same coach. His batter swings at a 2-2 count pitch, the
ball hits her. "Dead Ball, batter's out." See him coming and as he his, he is
looking towards the stands. I see this guy in the stands giving him the out sign.
He retreats and goes back to coach's box.

6th inning, play at the plate. R1 on 3rd, R2 on 2nd, 1 out. Batter hits to
F6, she fires to 1B, R1 coming from 3rd, good acturate throw on the money,
which F2 cathes, blocks and tags. Hear comes Johnnnnny. "Blue that
is obstruction." "You guys told us at the coaches/umpires meeting that the defender
could not block the base." My response, yeah I know, tasteless, "Go ask your
cuz, cause that was a perfectly legal play coach."

On the bright side, It sounds like his cuz is not a half bad umpire :)

Please do not do any more postings like this. I check my e-mail at the library and was almost thrown out for laughing so hard.

"Blue that

That proves my theory. Coaches and managers are like teenagers. They only hear what they want to hear.

And people wonder why I don't want them out on the field with a rule book. Many read the rule book like they listen, selectively.

I'm sorry, I have been out of the loop for a few years. Fed Rules Clinic next week and I have put in a request for an ASA book yesterday and ordered a Fed CD from the Athletic Rules-Study folks... Soon I will be armed to the teeth! But for now....
I take it that it's ok to block at the plate but not on the bases? What is the latest Glen? BTW Anyone know if there's an On-Line edition of the Rules book for ASA?

Cannot block any base without the ball if there is an immediate play.

What is the latest Glen?

Nothing much, just calling ball when it is not raining, and it
has started again.

No, ASA Rule Book is not on-line...Changes are, so if you have the 04
Book, go from there.

It is OK to block anything so long as the runner's progress is not impeded.
