Any ideas where to look for 1 person mechanics ? Our Assoc. starts you out doing 1 person mech, at JV games. But of course they don't have any formal or informal mechanics or positioning stuff . Any help or feedback is appreciated. Mike

Exactly

The rulebook/umpire's manual devotes a LOT to one-man mechanics and is an excellent resource. There should also still be some overheads around (check with past UIC's and others) that cover one-man...but that back part of the rule book has it covered.

I can't put a number on the one-man Slo-Pitch
games I've worked. The ASA has pretty good
recommendations for that.
I recall back in the day when I was assigning our
local high school games back in CNY. I would end
up with a few junior high level games that no one
wanted to umpire. I'd end up working by myself and
if the weather was nice (it usually was at the end of
May-- start of June) I'd tell the coaches I left my plate
gear at home and I'd work from behind the pitcher.
I realize it is a no-no, BUT those level games
typically had weak pitching and a lot of base
runners. I didn't have to move much to make my
calls, AND I didn't work up a sweat from being all
"geared up" !!
