Scott's practice FED test (see the other thread) was a great. Thanks for all the hard work. I wish I had taken it before I took the real one.

One of the questions on Scott's test was "One or more players must be designated captain." I answered false because obviously more than one player would be captain<i><b>s</b></i> not just <i><b>a</b></i> captain.

But seriously folks... I didn't know this one... but there it was in 3-1-2 just as the rule reference said it would be.

I'm curious: Have any of you ever received a line-up card with captains designated? Or ever known who was the captain? Do you make the coaches tell you who it is? I have not in South Carolina. And I don't think I did when I <*gulp*> worked for Scott down in Hillsborough County.

I'm concerned that it would cause more problems asking for this information at the plate conference than it would be just to ignore it.

In softball there are no official duties
for a team captain as there would be in
say football.
I honestly do not pay all that much attention
to who are the captains.
If there are any personnel issues, it's the
head coach who I need to know.

Just an old habit, but I always ask the coach who the
team captain is, just in case I have to have the coach
leave the game. :D

Not really the reason, but I do ask about team captain.

It is an honorary position in SB. After the pre-game you never address them again. Very different in Volleyball where the Captains are the only ones that can communicate with the referee during a match. (The coach can if she is willing to give up one of her two precious time outs.)

BTW – the SB girls take it seriously. When I was coaching I kept track of my captain selections to insure that all the players had the opportunity before the season was over.

Only in state series games do I write it down.
Maybe I should make note of it on a regular basis but I usually don't
