No, not the movie, the act.

This play surfaces fairly regularly on the BB board, so I thought I'd see what you folks think.

F3 fields a slow rolling batted ball 8 to 10 steps away from 1st and runs over to 1st to make the unassisted putout. She barely beats the runner to the bag, but clearly does touch the bag before the runner. Immediately after touching the bag F3 collides with the runner and the ball comes loose.

The question: is the runner out or safe?

Speaking ASA

As long as the umpire is satisfied that the fielder has control of the ball while contacting the base, the runner is out and any subsequential events are irrelevent.

I agree. Sounds like an out and a wreck. If there's any other runners, they may want to keep going since this is still a live ball/

Agreed.

ASA also has a case play that could shed some light on this.

Case Play 1-14......F5 cathces a line drive and starts to the dugout where she trips over third base and the ball falls out of her glove.

Ruling If the player completed the requirements of a legal catch befor falling to the ground, this is a legal catch.
