Rayburn Hesse (Spysoftball.com) is pretty good with the JO stuff and doesn't always put a spin on it, but he misses some other points.

This is the third time I've seen his note mentioning the change to the IFR and every time, including his own publication, the words ordinary effort are italicized as if that has something to do with the change. Since I authored the change, I can assure you that what you knew (ordinary effort) has been in the rule for a while and had absolutely nothing to do with the change.

When I saw the title of this thread, I hoped someone in ASA was doing something about the loss of fast pitch teams and tournaments to other organizations. Too bad.

Let's see....going to triple-elem means every game has meaning and teams and tournaments are not wasting resources or risking injury on meaningless games....tiering NC play into an elite status (USA/ASA Nationals) which require the same qualifying as before....creating a lower tier (ASA Nationals) to which damn near any team in good standing may attend if they are given a berth by their commissioner....making the game safer for the players AT THE PARENTS DEMAND....removing the tournament assessment for states and regionals....

I would say ASA is making some good moves.
