so, in trying to figure out the actual formula for this, i have run across two different ones. The first one comes from:
http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/print...7&type=feature

which states: Total bases
Hits + 2B + (3B times 2) + (HR times 3)

But every other site i have found states this:
Total bases
H + (2*2B) + (3*3B) + (4*HR)

I tend to believe the first formula, since a double counts as a hit, so you are already counting 1st base on the double with the 'Hits'. Am I thinking about this correctly?

If you hit a single, a double, a triple, and a home run, you are credited with 10 total bases. Infer and extrapolate from there!

The first formula is correct, check it out

143 Singles
33 Doubles
8 Triples
15 Home Runs

Total Hits 199 + 33 * 16 + 45 = 293 total bases

143 Singles 143 Bases
33 Doubles 66 Bases
8 Triples 24 Bases
15 Home runs 60 Bases

Total Bases 293 Bases

The second formula isn't quite correct, but there is two ways to compute it... the first formula above, and this one:

1B + (2x2B) + (3x3B) + (4xHR)
