Along the lines from greymule's "It's right in the rulebook blue" thread.

Men's B Fastpitch Nationals in Garland, TX

Batter swings at strike three in the dirt. Catcher throws to first for the third out. Batter claiming that he fouled the pitch off, "Come on blue, you've got three pairs of EYES out here. Somebody had to have HEARD the ball hit the bat!"

I think what you may have heard/felt was your golf club, I mean bat, hitting the dirt.
