In NFHS if the flex replaces the DP or if the DP replaces the flex and it isn't reported to the PU, is this considered an unreported sub? I couldn't find it in the rule book. It is clearly stated that way in ASA. Dave

My understanding is that yes, it is an unreported sub even through the rules did not specificially state such. According to http://www.nfhs.org, the 2005 rule book will have rewording for "2-57-3, 3-3-2: Clarified that the coach must notify the umpire when the FLEX assumes a position on offense or the DP plays defense for the FLEX."

However,

In NFHS, remember, there is no penalty for initial unreported
subs. The next offender would be restricted to the bench for the
remainder of the game.

Maybe it's not a penalty per se, but I think in NFHS, a team warning is issued for the initial occurance, with subsequent violations resulting in the offenders sitting on the bench for the rest of the game.
