was wondering how some of you felt about a runner jumping over a tag. In the POE #13 it says this is acceptable. just a topic to discuss.

What's to discuss? It's legal, and it's been done a million times.

Unless you're talking LL , 7.08 Any runner is out when (3) the runner does not slide or attempt to get AROUND a fielder who has the ball waiting to make the tag. You could take that to mean that over is not acceptable. Brian

just had someone tell me they were called out for it by ASA ump. I explained to him just because umpire has a patch dosen't mean he knows the rules. part of the problem is once these 20 players see a wrong call then they think its the right call and the next time it happens they don't know any better.

I believe in federation that it is ILLEGAL for a runner to jump, dive or hurdle a player to avoid a tag. That runner is OUT!! If i am incorrect on thsi please someone document it. Thanks!!

NFHS ruling

In NFHS, a runner can jump or hurdle a fielder who is prone on the ground.

Rule 8-6-10, under "Note: Jumping hurdling and leaping are all legal attempts to avoid a fielder only if the fielder is lying on the ground."

thanks for the input. I have only umpired ASA games but this info is good to know so I can sometimes understand where the misinformation may start from.

It often leaves with with feelings of inferiority, since I myself do not feel confident enough in my athletic abilities to attempt such a feat. Those concerns of inferiority will at times lead to self doubt and make me wonder if my dog really loves me or if he is just looking for another dog biscuit.

How sensitive of you to ask. I'll discuss it with my counselor and let you know more.

I don't believe anything was said about leaping a defender, just jumping over a tag. If that is all it is, I don't see it as an offense anywhere.
