I have never been a scorer and I have an opinion on this but I want to know for sure. I got asked this question and want to hear it from the experts.
Runners on 1st and 2nd. Batter hits a ground ball in the gap between 3rd and short which goes a good distance into the outfield. The runner on second is either asleep on the base or slow as heck, which ever the case may be, he gets thrown out at 3rd from left field. How is it scored? |
Doesn't take an expert. Whoever threw the ball gets an assist; whoever caught the throw and tagged 3B gets the putout. If F7 threw to F5: 7-5f.
What was the confusion? |
And the batter is counted as a hit? or is it still considered a fielders choice? Seems to me the fielder would have to have a "choice" to be considered a FC.

Fielder's Choice [n/m]
{empty}
|
It is not a hit. It is a specific type of fielder's choice: a force play.

Thanks, I figured that would be the call but I hate that a dumb runner could make what would be a good hit a FC
