Hi fellow Blues...I'm a new guy so take it easy on me til I get my feet wet. Next year I'd like to attend an umpiring school. Don't want to spend a fortune but want to get schooled so I can get better. I do primarily ASA Fastpitch girls and have learned from reading the book and just simply trial and error and asking a few questions from fellow Blues. Been at it about 3 years. I'd probably rank myself as a 6.5 to 7 on a scale of 1-10.

Anyone got suggestions on good schools close to west coast? Should I consider baseball schools? I mainly looking for mechanics. Rules can be gotten from boards, books and cases I think.

Metro Phoenix is having a great 2 day school in Phx Oct 16-17...Dont know if you wanna travel that far, but it would be worth it

ASA State and Metro associations should be putting on clinics within the state. Contact either's UIC to find out what the upcoming schedule may be.

The one that azbigdawg mentions would certainly be worth the time and cost. You will, no doubt, learn more than you ever thought you could.

NO, do not go to a baseball school unless you are going to work baseball.

Totally disagree. You can read all you want and there is no guarantee the bits and pieces you pick up on a board is always accurate.

You need to attend rules clinics. This is where you get the proper interpretations as not EVERYTHING is in a straight black and white printed format.

I agree with Mike. Baseball and softball mechanics are
different. If you are going to combine the two sports,
then attend clinic for both.

totally to different things.

Thanks guys, I'll check into the Phoenix clinic. My Sis just moved to Prescott Valley and it'd be a good excuse to mooch for a week.

I will second the Phoenix school endorsement.

Rules and field study with very knowledgable instructors.

See Cactusumpires.com for more information.
