Scenerio:

FP. Slow rise ball. Batter goes after high, outside pitch and attempts to bunt. Places foot solidly down in front of homeplate (completely outside box) and then makes contact.

I rule batter out.

My philosophy has always been that is its close you give the doubt to the batter. As an example, slap hitters. etc.

Is this a call you shouldn't make?

I agree, if you aren't sure, make no call at all. If you know she's out of the box, call the dead ball and call her out. After all, someone told me you're looking for 42 outs, take it when they give it to you.

No, it should be made if you are 100% sure batter is out of
the batter's box on contact.

I 100% agree...if you ARE SURE the batter was out of the box/stepped on the plate/etc, then call it dead and call batter out. If there is any doubt, then don't call it.

I called one girl there times in one game this year for being out of the box...twice she stepped on the plate. Know what coach said? Yep, he said:

You're the only one to call her on it, and she's done the same thing all year.

Knowing the coach, I gave him the puzzled look...he then said:

And she's been out of the box all year, but no one has the guts to call it.
