Folks,
I need some new pants. I need some help.
I'm wondering what the "combo pants" are like.
(I shop at Honigs primarily)
Has anyone had any experience with them?
Thanks.

they're great

I just got a couple of pairs of Honig's combos, B8 I think it is.
They are good, I really like them.
Am using them right now in a tournament near Disney.
The heat and humidity here are terrible right now but these new pants are working good.
I like them better than the +POS ones that I have been using.

I have, for about 6 years now, solely used the combo pant. My favorite is no longer manufactured, and that was the Fechheimer Flying Cross Combos. I have one decent pair of those left. My others are all Cliff Keen. I wouldn't use anything else!

Thanks, Scotts !

100% of Scotts cannot be wrong.
I'm goin' shopping with confidence!

I had zippers sewn to the inside seams of both legs. Allows quick removal of the shin guards. Keeps you from having to pull them way up and wrinkling.

Glen,
Now that's gotta be one of the most interesting uniform modifications I've heard of. Do the zippers show at all? I might just have to take a pair & try that.

Steve,

Mine don't. Took them to a seamstress and she did a
great job. Can only tell my looking right at the
bottom where zipper ends. Lots of the guys here are
using them now.

However, Sunday at the Texas AFA State tournament, I
saw a thread sticking out in backseat area, and like
a real dumba** I pulled. Now got to take them and
have that seam repaired. :D

Maybe you should have her put a zipper in there, also ;)

Mike,

That might be a good ideal. One in front and one to the
rear. :D

Whisker_ump you need to put a patent on that. Make some money.

That would be stealing a patent. There is an old baseball
umpire around here that helps us out now and then. He had
a pair of them. You can tell his are old, but will admit,
still look good. Several of the others have also copied the
ideal.

I use the Cliff Kleen Combos. They are great. Get them from Lester's Upstate Sports. Have another pair on order now.

I used the Fechmeiers almost the entire time I was umpiring. I never wanted different plate and field pants.
Hey Glen, just have your seamtress put in a long zipper from the front waistband through the crotch and around to the back waistband! LOL You won't have to remove the pants ever!

Elaine...I think that you mean the Fechheimers.

I just wear combo's on the bases and plate on the plate. It takes an extra 30 seconds to put on another pair of pants. I have two belts, one for plate, one for bases, and have the base pants ready to go if I know I have "double duty" to do.

Unless you have a long walk to your car between games, you should be changed out of plate gear and into base uniform in a few minutes. It will take the teams that long to leave the dugout/enter the dugout/warm up another pitcher.
