OK, I guess I have seen too many OBS calls and discussions about them here lately. It made me think about OBS and Interference and train wrecks, can we really still have a trainwreck anymore?? My classic trainwreck is at 1st base, where the ball, runner and fielder all get there at the same time and collide. Now with the new OBS rule why wouldn't that be OBS? Fielder was going after a thrown ball, but if the fielder didn't have possession of the ball and the runner was obstructed running then why would this not be OBS?

Sounds like it could be, unless you're using a double base. Maybe interference. Maybe a train wreck.

OK, OK, but with the new condition :D under which the same ol' rule is invoked, are there any train wrecks anymore?

Yes, I believe there can be a train wreck. If the ball gets into the glove simultaineously as the defender is moving into the path of the runner and there is a collision. This is assuming that the umpire judges that the ball would have been retained by the fielder involved.

I actually wrote, and posted a long, very eloquent response to this post before I noticed the smiley at the end of it.
