Did anyone see this play happen on the tube last night? Team USA up to bat, player hits a fly ball to the outfield. The ball hits the Arizona player in the glove and it pops out of her glove, bounces off the side of the outfield fence, and the is caught in her bare hand. They called the batter out. Is this a legal catch since it initially hit off her glove or did the umpires boot this one? Dave

No catch. Ball must be controlled before it touches anything other that a teammate. To be fair, what you described may have been impossible to see by the umps if the player was facing the fence.

This was a replay. It happened over a month ago. The
umpire went out on the play, but missed it anyway. |
And this is like the third time that it has been discussed on this board. As a matter of fact, I thought that I was reading one of the previous posts regarding this. ;)

Excuse me for bringing this up. I don't have the luxury of reading every post, every day so if I missed it posted the other times I had no way of knowing. Dave

They were just having some fun at your expense, Dave.
Don't worry about it. In fact, if search was working, I would have found the other threads on the topic and replied to them just to make them come to the top! Just to poke back at 'em for complaining! ;) |
