Last year I bought some T-shirts from ASA that say "ASA Umpire" on them (2 whites and 2 blues). Planned on wearing them under the uniform, but honestly they were too good (heavy) for summer and I relegated them to the dresser and kept using regular, thinner T's. I sometimes think about wearing the ASA shirts out around town but wonder if they are "official". In other words I'd never wear the powder blue to a cookout but could I wear the T (provided I did'nt drink too much of course)? Opinions?

Sure.
Wear 'em.
Good advertsing.

There are loads of shirts out there, ASA Softball, USA Softball, etc. that are sold for the purpose of use in public.

The shirts you are referring to were made available so umpires who wore them would have an undergarment they could wear between games as well as while they were working.

I think they do a good job. The only problem I have experienced is that the sleeves are a big long and you occasionally have to tuck them under the outer shirt.
