What was this? Some kind of sick morphing together of the foul tip rule, the infield fly rule, and the hockey blue line?

Kinda makes the obstruction "confusion" among umpires pale by comparison.

of course if he had a partner, and you protested, the call may have been changed on the spot. In our association when a protest is upheld both blues donate their pay for the night to our favorite charity,, unless the one making the call refuses to listen to his partner.
