HEard good things about Fireworks. |
Living in a small town in Texas, I have to travel and travel
to do games. My chapter is 60 miles north and south. (I belong to two chapters). I do mostly AFA tournament ball, which is plentiful in the surrounding areas. Travelled 268 miles one way to call a playoff game this year. HS Normal travel is -around 120 miles round trip. I call in La. a lot, which is normally 240 round trip. This year I am going to Gulfport Mis., July 10-18 and then back to Texas for AFA 18U Nationals. This is the trip I hope Dakota gets to make. Week after next I get to work with Rick, TexBlue. BTW Tom Russ Lepisto is suppose to be in attendance. |
Milage/Gas prices are not an issue with me. I like to get there, do my job..then leave. Staying all weekend is what turns me off. So I would likely drive 3 hrs..Ump 3-4 games in a row, then go home.
Prestige or chewing the fat with other Umps all day long is just not my thing. |
If I think that I am going to have fun, then there is no limit as to how far I will travel.

Speaking of losing umpires
Kellerumps, you jinxed me. We were supposed to have 16 umps, then went to 12 (including me working games as well as UIC). Then I was back to 16. Then three guys decide it was really too far for them to drive (and in reality, it probably was) so I was back to 13 (me not working).
So, it's all your fault blue...you took the bat out of my hands...if we could get good umpires to work the games, you wouldn't be there...why you got to bring up gas prices...just want some consistency blue... :) HOLD IT, WRONG POST... :) Anyway, distance is a factor for summer ball tournaments. A secondary factor was a tournament closer to them needed some umpires, so why no work together? |
