In ASA slowpitch, for the purpose of calling a Ball when the pitch hits home plate, is the black border of Home Plate considered part of home plate for this rule?

If you remove the plate from the ground, the black comes with it, it is therefore part of the plate. Players/coaches will probably have a differing opinion.

...oh, I like this common sense explanation. This happens alot and this is a great way to state the ruling.

Speaking ASA

Yes, they will tell you that the rule book says the plate is only 17" wide and the black is not included, therefore cannot be part of the plate.

As an umpire, you then cite the ASA Rules Clinic Guide which interprets the black beveled part of the plate, while not within the dimensions, is to be considered part of the plate for all events whether a pitched ball, a defender forcing a runner or a runner scoring.
