As I posted on some thread unmemorably .. I am starting working with my 3rd league this year. A lady had called me out of the blue about two weeks ago and asked me to ump some games for her by reference. No Prob! Glad to do it. Only thing I asked was what age .. she says 12 y/os. Its good to go. She says i will be PU.

Well I'm taking care of some errands before my game tonight and get done early so i arrive at the field about 50 mins early.

Things seem odd... a mound ... hmmm .. bases a mile apart.. very nicely lined field. The field is beautifully done.. perfect. Even the team names chalked into the batters circle. Definately things just dont seem right for a typical softball game.

Lo.. a car. Out pop two boys! Baseball players! OK; obviously I'm at the wrong field. I call the assigner lady and she tells me tonight is the little league championship to decide 1st place. I was assigned to little league! PU! League Championship! You coulda knocked me over with a feather. Complete and utter shock.

I call my UIC (who is area UIC for LL and ASA) and he gives me the go ahead if I'm up to it and says I'm covered. We go over a few things just to make sure I'm up to snuff on the major stuff (LL Major is very much like ASA on OBS, INT etc). Also had two! BU's backing me up.

So there it is.. drafted to the dark side! Baseball. Man talk about strike zone.. jeez call something above the belly button and the crowd whines. Was great fun though. Need to get me one of them hockey masks.. that wooden back stop just wont do, I was waiting to take one to the back of the head.

I bought the hockey style helmet last year for just that reason. The backstop is like 5 feet behind me. More than once the F2 and I have been looking for the ball and the pitcher has it already on the rebound from the backstop.

Bases a mile apart?? LL Majors still use 60 foot baselines.

What a screwed up year this has been - I've only done 2 softball games. Mostly baseball this year.
