NFHS rules- PU
Batter leans into pitch (I mean she really leans-8 to 10 inches) and the ball nicks her shirt. The pitch is borderline- could go either way- may have caught the corner, but the batter blocks your view. What have you got? Strike- dead ball or Ball-dead ball award first base?

Could you be just a little more vague? :D

From what you are describing, one thing is certain, she won't be taking a base. She will never be taking a base if she leans into the pitch. The only other thing that is certain is that I will have a dead ball.

Now, without more info it would be difficult to say for certain whether I would call a ball or a strike, but, if she did lean as far as you stated, it would almost seem certain that she is in the actual strike zone. In the scenario that you present, I would be sure that if I was going to err, I would do so in favor of the defense, since it appears that the batter is leaning into the pitch with the obvious intent of getting the ball to hit her.

Kind of the opposite of attempting to avoid - attempting to not avoid! ;)

DEAD BALL - STRIKE

Yeah, yeah, I know,

... never guess a strike, yadda, yadda. But, there are times when you have to decide who gets the benefit of the doubt, and in this case, it ain't the batter! JMO.

Concur... it would have to clearly be a ball outside for me to not call that a strike... if I errored, it would be on the side of "steeeeeerike" - thats not a smart thing for a batter to be learning is acceptable or a free ride.
