The runner on first will attempt to steal 2nd. Two questions 1) If the runner leaves the base before it crosses Home plate, do you kill the play immeadiatly or do a delayed dead ball? 2) Who has the call on if the runner left early PU or BU? To me the PU can tell if the ball crosses the plate which the BU may not be able to see effectivly but the PU can't have his eyes in two places watching the pitch and the runner. I am assuming it is the BU's call.

Either can call it but it is BU's responsibility and it is a dead ball out.

Whoever sees it, calls it. It is an immediate dead ball, but has nothing to do with stealing. This was the rule before stealing and has not changed.

One of the few "chewing outs" I got was for calling a
"left early" from behind the plate. I was working with
the UIC. The gal on 2B left early on one pitch and I
did not call it that time. On the next pitch, she leaves
early again. I call it. She comes in telling me that
that is not my call and to never to that to her again.
After the game, I go to my car, get my book, open it to
the appropriate page and give it to her. We have never
worked together since.

2B? That is the one place where there is no question the PU has the better view of the violation.

I totally agree. When working 2 man, I always ask my
partner if he has multiple runners, does he want me to
take the one at 2B so he can concentrate on the other(s).
If I see it missed once, then I am calling it the next
time from my position behind the plate. She just did not
like the idea of what she called, "me showing her up." Do
you job.
