This is probably a no brainer for you guys, here goes. I was watching a collage softball game on TV a while ago and on a hard hit to the fence, the ball, while still airborne, hit the fielders glove then hit the fence then the fielder kind of juggles the ball and ultimatly catches it. I assume it was NCAA rules and was called properly.(out) Can the catcher do somthing like that with foulballs, tips, etc? My daughter plays ASA and High School, same rules? Remember, I referee basketball, so speak slowly and clearly. ;)

Thanks, Stan

If the ball touches the fence...no catch. If the glove touches the fence...good catch. If the umpire didn't see the ball touch the fence.....http://www.stopstart.freeserve.co.uk...e/director.gif

Wasn't that the USA-Arizona game? If so, bad call. The blue may not have seen the ball hit the fence. Gotta believe they knew the rule, so this is what I'm assuming.

Yes it was USA-Arizona now that you mention it. If I recall the play correctly, it would be very difficult for an umpire to see.

Thanks for the info.
