Had a great game today. Two teams tied for their district
leadership. No score through seven. Top of eighth, visitors
score one. [Teams in this district do not utilize ITB]. Home team
comes back with one. Neither score in ninth. Visitors fail in
tenth. Home teams first batter walks, steals second, next batter
strikes out. 1 Out. First pitch to 3rd batter - wild pitch -
runner to 3rd. Batter pops up in front of 3rd base [home team] dugout.
In catching the ball, fielder unintentionally enters the dugout.

Ball game.

Mick,

Really not much anyone could say. All dead ball areas
had been covered at the plate. This field has such
large openings to the dugouts that it had to be covered.

There was a lot of actual crying, but neither team had
anything to be ashamed of. It was a well played game.
Close calls, but not one timeout to come talk to the blues
except for substitutions. A really enjoyable game. No one
even knew the umpires were there.

Cool

I had a 1-0 high school game a couple of weeks ago--the
only run was scored by a runner on third with one out---
suicide squeeze bunt-- catcher gets out in front of the
plate to pick up the bunted ball--- runner head first slide
to the back of the plate, hits plate corner with her left hand
before the swipe tag by the catcher--- SAFE !!!!
exellant play and a very exciting moment for this
old umpire working the plate that night !
Gutsy softball by that coach.
PS-- I do not understand why the NFHS is reluctant
to use the Tie Breaker rule for extra inning games.

In DE, only certain conferences use the ITB.

The problem this creates is that seasons overlap and while umpires are working a marathon at a HS, other games go without umpires.

Heck Mike, I find games go just as long without the ITBR
being used....

Of course, it goes just as long without the ITB in place. That's my point. The only thing HS worry about around here is the dark. If the game goes 4 hours long, they don't care.

Once again, availability of resources ignored.

Sounds like umpire mismanagement of resources available
to s/he....5 warmups for both pitchers in first inning,
three and go thereafter. Course its so hot around here
most are ready after two warmups. Temperture Sat, 1:00
P.M. was 89 degress, with nothing but sun. No breeze.

Temperature here, Saturday 1:00PM --- 60 degrees, sunny but a small breeze with gusts.

Warmest day we'll have for the next week...rumor is snow flurries on Tuesday...until the weather changes in 5 minutes (it is Indiana).

As for ITB, I like it. It puts a premium on good defense of the bunt. But then again, with two dominiating pitchers, it really doesn't matter, because you have to hit the ball eventually (unless you try a squeeze bunt).

HS here doesn't use it. Some colleges do, depending on league.
