Weren't you guys yakking about him last year, too?

Billy Peterson, former (as of this winter) member of the ASA NUS from the Northern District. You can find his smiling (well, as much as a retired Marine ever smiles) face on p 196 of your 2003 ASA rule book (umpire edition).

He's from St. Paul, MN.

He is now a member of the NUS for AFA.

I've had the pleasure and privilege of not just being in his clinics and schools but actually calling games with him.

PS - that picture was taken when he had hair!

Billy is the director of umpires for NAFA, they are an association for mens' fastpitch. He was with ASA for about 20 years as a regional rep. He is probably the best teacher of officiating there is. After 20 years I guess you learn what works with groups. He was UIC for many National tournaments. He retired from ASA and now is doing clinics for AFA and NAFA. He is still an ASA official and does a lot of college ball. Perhaps he'll join in I know he lurks here.

The shin guard is the Honigs' K-10. It has a hard shell over the knee with padding under it. I guess with my knee flexed the guard didn't have enough give and the padding wasn't enough. I'm working tommorrow so we'll see. I am going to wear a knee brace under the guard and that should work.
