Had to restrict as't coaches to the bench tonight.
(won't allow two ss in this case)
As't coach brings lineup to plate wearing jeans and
flannel shirt. After conference told her she was now
restricted to the bench. She advises the coach and
then sends out another person to coach 1B. He is in
cutoffs. Restrict him also. Coach ask me how she is
going to manage the players in dugout while she is on
the field? Coach, I restricted 'em to dugout, did not
eject.....

Here's your sign.

So, I guess the coaches were gonna cover that in the next rules class?

Interestingly enough, the coach's attire is a big deal here in Pennsylvania. Up until last year, the PIAA went beyond the Fed rule book and required coaches to wear the same uniform as the players. This PIAA ruling preceded the Fed rule on how coaches may dress, so they went with the BB rule - where coaches do wear the same uniform as the players.

Last year - 2003 - the PIAA decided to simplify things and follow the Fed's rule. But they made sure that we interpreters emphatically told them that if the dress became a "problem", they'd have to go back to wearing the uniform.

In my little section of Maryland, we are instructed to advise a coach not properly attired that he/she is in violation but not to restrict to the bench. Head county AD wants coach on the field for coaching purposes. Only one guy ever pushes the rule. Jeans( and sometimes not so neat ones).

Here in Georgia, the "Neat Rule" is really pushed in HS play. I like it myself. Coaches ought to take pride in their appearance. I wish the independant associations would follow suit.

What rule? There is no penalty, so this guy will keep dressing as he pleases. Until your area enforces the rule, they shouldn't bother to inform anyone.

I agree that if there is no enforcement the rule is a moot point. Every year the subject comes up and every year we are told to "inform but allow". Not my favorite part of the pregame.

Bob,
I think you missed one of Jimmy's earlier posts - he's relatively new and in a chapter that seems more interested in their fees than in doing things "by the book".

I've been there - it's a tough place for a new guy, who wants to learn the right way.
