True or False
Runners are permitted to return to a missed base or a base left too soon before a dead-ball appeal can be made?

Is this a trick question? I realize that after all playing action has completed and the defense asked for a dead ball appeal, the umpire calls dead ball. At that point the runners cannot return to a missed base or a base left too soon.
This question came up on a NF test a couple of years ago with IHSA (Illinois),and was marked True

I know it is definitely true for ASA as long as other conditions didn't occur (awarded bases).

Thought NFHS had some stipulation that if the runner was on a base past that missed or left too soon when the ball goes dead, they couldn't return. I'm sure Roger or another Fed guru will make sure we get the correct answer.

Mike is correct about being on or touching an advance base when a ball goes DBT for Fed. If so, the runner may not leagally return to correct a base running error.

The umpire would not stop the baserunner from making such a return, but would honor any appeal for the missed base since the correction was not legal.
