OK, in another thread we have a couple of guys who endorse the K2 as being better than nothing! http://www.click-smilies.de/sammlung...smiley-021.gif

What interests me about the K2 is that perhaps it will look better for "girth challenged" umpires. http://www.stopstart.fsnet.co.uk/Gif/Garfgarf.gif

But, I am concerned with the lack of below the sternum protection.

So, have any of you moved from a full protection protector, such as The Ump, to the K2? What did you think?

I have been using the K2 for quite some time and really like it.
I had used a full protector for many years prior to that but decided to give it a try one time and never went back
The K2 is cooler, lighter, less restrictive and really does cover the areas needed.
I have rarely gotten hit in the stomach though it does happen but with no problems.
See if you can find someone who will let you borrow a K2 for a couple of games to see how you like it, then go buy one

Tom,

I have used the K2 for as long as I can remember. In fact
I am on my second one, [broke a snap when I closed car door
on the originial.] Never had any problems. A lot of guys
have tried mine and switched.

BTW, got the Gerry Davis new low profile mask for Christmas.
Have not used it in any game yet, but will this weekend. It
is as light as the SUL. My only concern is can you remove it
without losing the cap.

I started using the K2 last year and love it. I am one of those "girth-challenged" umpires. The K2 gives me the protection where I really want it, up around the collarbone and shoulders. It is much lighter to wear and cooler as it allows air to circulate around the midsection. I, too, have not been hit in the stomach very much, but I do have a good amount of natural padding in that area! :)
