Removed the words: "or not about to receive a thrown ball to read: "when a fielder not inpossession of the ball or not in the act of fielding a batted ball, impedes the progress of a runner or batter-runner that is legally running bases." IOW, the defender must have possession of the ball to legally block a runner's basepath. Any other action, or lack of, could constitute obstruction.

As usual, I asked before looking...can't wait for the big guys to see that double base business...and all the local school districts to see the face mask stuff [here in NY,NYSSO follows ASA 95% of the time]-they were yelping about the $$$ for the double bases and chin straps....

You will find that the men will hit both sides of the base simultaneously (IOW, the center of the double-base), that way they won't have to worry about making such an important decision while running
