Posted on another board, but realized that all of you are not on
both, so replaying it here.

This weekend I took part in an AFA Qualifier. Sat.
night at 7:15, I started a game between two very good teams.
At 10:42 we finally had a winner. Not sure of how many ITB
innings were played. The 1hr 20min game time expires with
a tie and we just kept on playing. The winning team went
down to 8 players when their pitcher tried to stretch a double
into a triple and hit 3B wrong, wrecking her ankle. The player
happen to be the asst. coaches DD. While everyone was attending
the injured player, the asst coach slapped the head coach knocking
his hat off. She then proceeded to use a string of four letter
words and entered the dugout and begin throwing equipment. I
ejected her. It was 3 innings later I found out she was the
mother of injured player...Felt kinda bad at this point. However,
I felt the ejection was justified because of her action.

Would you as the umpire have enforced an ejection?

I'da got her for either slapping or for any one of the 4 letter words used. I'm assuming the words were directed at a coach or player and not because she was worried about her DD. It seems like she should have spent more time worrying about the player and less on behavior that couldn't have been aiding the player. From your description, she deserved what she got. Was she gone from the game or the tournament? A physical encounter would get a ejection from the tournament, I would think.

Yes, absolutely. There is no USC exception regarding stressed parent-coaches, even if you had known that at the time.

Let me see if I understand.

The AC's daughter was laying on the ground in pain and she is throwing a temper tantrum in the dugout.

That's is what a call a mother with her priorities screwed up.

One more thing... You said she was the injured player's mother, right? Are you sure the head coach wasn't her husband? http://www.click-smilies.de/sammlung...smiley-060.gif

Yes, absolutely, for sure, affirmative.

I had a similar situation this past summer at Triple Crown in Utah. Runner at third had gotten hung up on a slow roller to the pitcher. Caught in a rundown and tagged for the third out of the inning.

One of the asst coaches from the dugout starts screaming at the third base coach that he screwed up by not sending the runner hard on contact. Very loud, very agitated, then he walks over to where the third base coach is standing in the gate to the dugout and throws a punch at him! My partner was there immediately and ejected the guy.

Never had two coaches from the same team start duking it out before.

It seems like there are AAs even in youth softball.

Years ago, I was working a charity FP tournament. Just at the start of an inning, I heard cussing coming from the offensive dugout. I looked over in time to see one coach douse the other coach with a large coke. They proceeded to go at each other until my partner and I separated them and ejected them both. (At this tournament, an ejection was for the duration.)

Ironic thing was...one of the two ejected coaches was also the TD!

I guess it really was an offensive dugout. ;) I hope you didn't physically separate them.
