The no jewelry rule was removed. It is now based on umpire's judgment. This year, with the permitting of electronic communication devices, things like smart watches or earpieces would be allowed.

3-2-13 Any equipment judged by the umpire to be potentially dangerous is illegal.

While jewelry obviously is not considered "equipment", the umpire could ask a player to remove something like large hoop earrings.

If I judge something to be dangerous jewelry or equipment, I prefer to say they "can not play" with it on. Saying "take it off" can have a wrong implication and you might be responsible if they or the item is damaged while removing it. The same goes for illegal equipment.
