batter interference

This happened three times on Sunday:
Runner on 3rd, catcher attempts throw and batter interferes. The two other umpires were not sure how to rule, but they both got it right with help from partners. One of the three was a third out.
It is the same in NFHS, USA, USSSA.

Any comments?

What did the batter do to interfere?

The only one I personally saw was that after a pitch, the batter stepped out and while still moving collided with the catcher who was attempting to pick off the runner at 3rd. It was a possible play as the runner at 3rd had taken a big lead.

Is that what you asked?

That sounds like interference. Absent what the circumstances for the other two we don't know for them.

Their descriptions were similar.

Any comment on "two other umpires were not sure how to rule"; given batter interference is not common.

To many umpires think the batter has to do something intentionally for it to be INT.
Where I moved to I do not see any good training.
