Look Back Rule

Runner on 3rd, batter walks. BR rounds 1st (does not stop) and continues to 2b. We all know the LBR goes into effect when the BR reaches 1b. Question is does the BR need to stop for the LBR to take effect, or is in effect the instant she touches 1B?

The look back rule is in effect when the pitcher has possession (NFHS) or possession and control (USA, NCAA) of the ball in the pitching circle.

If there is a batter-runner, an additional condition is that the batter-runner has reached (USA) or touched (NFHS, NCAA) first base or has been put out.

In all cases the ball must be live.

If the BR has reached first, and the pitcher has meet the requirements for the LBR to take effect, it would be in effect so to speak, so if the runner on 3rd steps off and stops, she can be called out.

With a 2 person crew this can be a tough one.

It shouldn't be tough, just anticipate the possibility every time. BU has the batter-runner, PU is to focus on the runner on third.
