Batter INT on a squeeze play

I seem to recall a case play or discussion where a squeeze play is attempted by the offense. Somehow, the batter interferes with the catcher after the attempt is botched.

Whenever a player interferes, that player is out. However, I thought I understood that the runner from third could also be called out on this play.

I can't find it in my USA rules book. And I only work USA & NFHS.

Anyone else hear or know of this? If so, where is it located?

Thanx.

Try 7-6-U and 8-7-P (runner closest to home if the interfering player is already out).

Im not seeing any case play or clarification stating that. Only thing Im coming up with on a squeeze play is if you have catchers obstruction during a squeeze attempt the ball is dead, batter awarded first and runner awarded home. Otherwise I only see the out on the batter for interference and runner returns to 3rd.

In USA softball the batter is always out if they interfere on any play.
Runners return.
However, if the interference occurred after the batter struck out then the runner closest to home would also be called out.
It would be different in baseball where the runner attempting to score would be called out on Batters Interfernce unless it was two outs before the interference occurred.
In that case the batter would be called out and no run would be scored.

Yes, I forgot about intentional interference, which always has a more severe penalty.

Ah, this must be the one I was recalling. The difference is that the BR (as opposed to Batter) is out, implying there must have been a ball put into play.

I don't remember where this came up, either as discussion at some clinic or as a case play. A few umpires were talking about this over the weekend as someone had a play where the batter interfered with the catcher on a steal attempt. The conversation expanded from there.

Thanx for the references.
