Referee survey for school

Hi my name is Blake Jones.
I’m a student of Yea High School in Victoria and I’m doing a project on basketball refereeing and I’m finding out ways people treat referees in different sports.
I am a basketball referee myself so I know the basics but I would you guys be able to help me out.
I’m hoping you guys could answer these simple questions so I can learn more about what you have to handle in a higher level of refereeing or umpiring.
These answers will be greatly appreciated.

Every game (Otherwise, would they even be coaches?)

In my experience soccer referees are generally treated with respect by the participants of the game. The real issue is a general lack of respect (and rules knowledge) among spectators.

How do you normally feel while refereeing?
Relaxed. Excited a bit at the opening whistle, but not apprehensive.

How often do coaches yell at you?
Every game. They think they have to or they're not doing their jobs. It's usually not bad, though.

How often do you get abused by players?
Rarely. It's happened once or twice in 20 years.

How often do you have to eject a coach from the field?
Rarely. I've done it once, and seen it done two other times.

How often do you have to red card a player or coach for abusing you?
Rarely.

How often do you have to send a player off the field for abusing the referee?
Few games. Sometimes players will get a second yellow for dissent after they've already gotten one for something else. That may not be what you're asking, though. I've found that once one player gets a yellow for dissent, that often helps quiet things down.

How often do you have to punish a coach for abusing the referee?
Rarely. In high school games I've seen a handful of coaches get yellow cards, but almost never a red.

How would you describe referees treatment in your games?

OK for the most part. Players and coaches pretty much understand what is and isn't supposed to happen. Very rarely does dissent rise to the level of abuse. As another poster said, spectators are the biggest issue. I work as a mentor for young referees, and the biggest reason they leave refereeing is the abuse they get from spectators.
