Referees, coaches, parents...... do not take any chances with lightning and thunder storms. Fatal error involved in death of 14-year old girl playing in New Brunswick tournament. About 20 minutes prior to the fatal strike, thunder was heard "in the distance", but ignored. Consider thunder the same as lightning. When you first hear it and/or see it clear the pitch. Direct coaches to secure proper cover. NOTE: anyy cover with metal exposure serves as a lightning rod. Get inside cars or sound structures.Wait 15 minutes after the LAST thunder or lightning before returning teams to the pitch.

Recommendations outlined as specific steps and procedures for the management of games where lightning and thunderstorms.
