question for all you experiecned ref's
 

I am a poor college student who has played soccer all his life, I go to a college that has no soccer team. So I was thinking about becoming a high school ref, and trying to ref or start out being a linesman at the local po dunk high school. I have a few questions I was wondering if anyone could help me out.

In order to ref in the MHSAA:
Do I have to take any certification classes?
Do I have to have prior refing experience?
What is the average pay for each game? or is it all volunteer?

Are you refering to the Mississippi HS Association or Michigan?? If you are refering to Mississippi, all you have to do is contact the MHSAA and get registered, go to a rules meeting and contact your assignor for matches. I don't know about other states. I don't think HS is registered through USSF so there would be no special requirements to meet with them.

Please don't look down on linesman or po dunk hs.

If you can't find a web site, call the closest hs and enthusiastically ask the AD who to contact.

Every State has a different type of teaching and assignment for officials. In Wisconsin, USSF is by far superior in training of new officials so if you want to learn :confused: go that route. The NFHS has testing and rules that are somewhat different but the better pay is at the high school and college levels. Start out at the youth club or JV high school and learn b-4 you jump into the deep end. Don't downplay a linesmans role, just because you are an AR your job is quite important and just as likley to get you guff if you blow/miss a call.:mad:

Start by contacting your state high school association. If you don't know how to get in touch with them call your local high school and ask for the number. Call them and ask what's involved. Every state is different. It's usually not a complicated process at all. Good luck! Gotta go. Have 2 boys games in a V HS tourney in a little while.

You are lucky! I lost one reffing game and three of my son's games due to heavy, weeklong rains. Maybe next week?
