Case 4.1.1 Sit D - jersey colors

The NFHS updated Case 4.1.1 Sit D and offered another update through the rules interpretations.

The Case reads:

Team A, the home team arrives wearing striped jerseys that have (a) large, light blue and thin white alternating stripes or (b) large light red and thin white alternating stripes. Two members of Team A are wearing visible light red T-shirts beneath their jerseys.

The interp ruling, with underlines words being additions, reads:

(a) Illegal in (a) and (b). Striped jerseys are permissible for the home team as long as the dominant color is dark (dark is defined as any color which contrasts with white). Jerseys with equal-sized stripes that have both dark and white stripes do not have a dominant dark color and are illegal. If visible apparel is worn under the jersey and/or shorts, it shall be similar in length for the individual and all solid and of a like color for the team; Page 79, Comments on Rules Changes: 12.8.1f(15)

They seem to contradict. Shouldn't the Case read "Team A, the visiting team.." or shouldn't the ruling be that they are "legal". Needs to be one or the other.

For 2018-19, Home wears dark and Away wears white.

Or am I missing something painfully obvious?

You are correct, bucky. In a pre-season bulletin, PIAA included this:

Correction to the 2018-19 NFHS Soccer Rules
There is a mistake on page 24 of this year's soccer rule book. 4.1.1 Situation D should be Legal for the home team and Illegal for the visiting team since the visiting team must wear solid white jerseys and socks. The home team could wear striped jerseys so long as there is a dominant dark color. The highlighted sentence is correct.

Perfect, thanks so much for the response.

Our school season just got underway, with predictable ignorance of this change. Varsity coaches must attend preseason meetings where new rules and interpretations are outlined, so they should know. But jv coaches are not required to attend, and if their varsity coaches don't tell them about changes, they won't know until we tell them, ""Coach, your players are not properly uniformed."

Many schools canceled preseason scrimmages because of rain or extreme heat, so we lost opportunities to reinforce the changes with coaches before opening day.
